As part of its commitment to education in the country, the Centre for Intellectual Renewable has instituted an award for History students who excel at the end of their studies in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
The Centre for Intellectual Renewal, is an Accra based NGO established over a decade ago with a primary concern to deal with matters relating to culture, communication, general economic development and research activities in Public Affairs, both within and outside the country.
The recipients for this maiden and annual ceremony were Juliet Oppong-Boateng and James Kofi Quartey. Each of the awardees took home a certificate and a cash price of $300.00.
At the brief and colourful ceremony, the Provost of the College of Art and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Dr. Daniel Bour on behalf of the University, thanked the organization for their kind gesture.
He congratulated the beneficiaries and charged them to continue to focus on Academic Excellence. He assured them that his office would do its best to partially support them to pursue their MPhil and PhD programmes to build the capacity of the working force for the Department.
Prof. Bour observed that, the credibility of every University depends principally on the quality of research, but does not depend on having fabulous infrastructure. He added that as a University, its focus is on academic excellence and committed to continuous improvement of the economic development of the Nation.
He therefore called on benevolent organizations and individuals come to their aid.
The Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Ohene Manu, expressed his appreciation to the benefactors for instituting such a prize of excellence to the deserving students. He reiterated that, the faculty is constrained with resources and therefore appeals to donors to come to their aid so they could achieve their ambitions.
Present at the ceremony were the representatives of the Peggy Appiah Prize award, Awal Baba Alhaji, Abena Appiah; Head of Department, Dr. W. J. Donkoh and members of staff of the Department.
